Transfer Business Name – What to do as Buyer
Upon settlement, the Seller will provide you with an ASIC Transfer Number which will allow you to transfer the Business Name to your own ABN.
You then log into your own ASIC Connect account (free to register), apply to register the business name, and enter both the ASIC Transfer Number and your ABN. ASIC checks that your details match what’s on record before processing anything.
Helpfully, you can generally begin trading under the name as soon as you’ve lodged the application, without waiting for ASIC’s public register to formally update. That means signage, invoices and your point-of-sale system can switch over on the day you take control, provided your lodgement has already gone in.
Ready to Transfer the Trading Name Into Your Name? Here’s the Process
Log into your existing ASIC Connect account (this is different to your Auskey Account).

Once you’re logged into your ASIC Connect Account click on the tab [Licences & Registrations]. From the drop-down menu select [Business Name Registration]

Tick the check boxes shown and click [Get Started].

Select the ABN option that is applicable to yourself from the list provided and continue to follow the prompts from screen to screen.
